What We Did Online in ’09 (comScore)

The comScore 2009 U.S. Digital year in Review wrapped up the year last week with a few interesting findings, most notably that nearly 4 out of 5 Internet users visited a social networking site in December 2009.

That Twitter bump last spring, when literally everyone seemed to discover tweeting at the same time, is confirmed: Twitter used jumped from 4 million to 17 million between February and April. It has since stalled around 20 million.

And in other news of the year:

  • Search is up in terms of unique searchers, number of searches and searches per user. No surprise there.
  • e-commerce spending actually dropped for the first time, down 2% to $209.6 billion.
